Koolhoven 100 Ton Vliegboot

Postby WhyMe » Fri Mar 22, 2013 8:49 pm

I just found something I've never heard of before.
A 100 ton flying boat project by Dutch designer Frederik Koolhoven.
A quick research turned over only two images:
the plan
and a model

Here's an article about Koolhoven mentioning this project: http://www.alexdenouden.nl/artikelen/koolhoven.htm
And here's the model description: http://www.bel-air-models.com/models/civil/Koolhoven100TonVliegboot.asp

Does anyone have anything else on this aircraft?

Never heard of it, but it looks like it was an interesting project - and I'm always interested in learning about new things!

I almost didn't notice that on the right side of the Web page you referenced there was an English translation of the (Dutch?) text on the left side.

I am still curious however - although it mentioned the unusual mounting of the engines buried within the wing, there was no mention of exactly what kind or type of engines were envisioned for use on that behemoth. My first thought at seeing the iamges you included was - "my, what weenie engines it has!" Any idea of what type/size/displacement engines were planned for this thing?
