Beech 18 floatplane en route to Europe

From Air-Britain's Information Exchange forum today ...

Hi All,

An exciting adventure is underway! Taigh Ramey of Vintage Aircraft, Stockton, CA is currently ferrying a 1952 Beech 3NM (ex RCAF 2318) C-FGNR c/n A-797 last operated by Vancouver Island Air (VIA) from Vancouver to Belgium to its new owner, the Pairi Daiza Park, southwest of Brussels, Belgium. The Park is a combination garden and zoo in which the floatplane will be featured. This will be the very first Beech 18 floatplane crossing of the Atlantic. As I write this (12:40 EST in US Monday) they are halfway across Saskatchewan, Canada, you can track their progress at

I missed the Beech 18 up in Akureyri by four hours! It had left by the time I arrived in a 60 years old Beech Bonanza from Moso on the outskirts of Reykjavik. But while I was waiting for Catalina G-PBYA to arrive at the airfield I did see this lovely Beaver floatplane in Akureyri harbour...

Thanks for the photo Tony. It is helpful - when I asked the local Whale Watching crew where the Beech 18 had been parked they knew nothing about it! It is now clear it was at a different jetty within the town. I still would not have seen it tho' :-(

If anyone goes to Akureryi, the aviation museum Tony mentions is very good indeed and not to be missed.
