Quiz #126

Quiz #126

Postby seawings » Sun Apr 14, 2013 7:52 am

Hi All,

For this quiz, I thought a good title might be: 'Do YOU want me to fly in THIS?"

It wasn't my intention to make this particular quiz overly hard to solve - although having come across this image I knew absolutely nothing about the craft in the photo - but the story behind it is fascinating (clue #1).

Now, right away let me tell you that this craft did not have a name as far as I am aware, so what we are seeking here is the answer to the question, "What was the name of the person who built it"? and "Why"? if you want.

The background story of the person is genuinely fascinating; clue #2 is the the fact that you are looking at a photograph, that of course was taken by a photographer........

(And, yes, I've taken care of the image url this time.....!)

Let's see how good your collective detective skills really are........

Here it is:

Best of luck, over to you all..........

Well, it did have a name - the Lawrence-Lewis Model A.
Built by the Lawrence-Lewis Aeroplane Company of Chicago.
The company was in business from 1913 to 1919.
For more info on the company, it's founders and designs try this link - http://www.thomasyanul.com/grl.html

I'm feeling generous Bryan, since I kind of spoiled your fun, have another go.
