Illustrated flying boat

Please help me. I was in Italy some years ago, with a barely adequate camera. (as is evident from the poor quality of the attached photograph) This plane made numerous circuits and bumps in the bay in front of my (borrowed) villa. I spent 3 months there and in that time this plane or others like it made occasional landings and lift-offs.
What I would like to know is, what is the plane?? I had thought it must be a Catalina, but do not now believe so.
Many Thanks

Hi Frogphotog,

the aircraft is a Canadair CL415 and is used as a water bomber, to assist in larger forest fires.
