Schneider racers

Postby schneiderman » Mon Jul 26, 2010 12:27 pm

Morning all,

A repeat of my post under Flying boats as it fits here to......

I've just joined the forum so this is really just to introduce myself. My main area of interest is the Schneider racers, something I have been researching for many years and which may yet result in a book of some sort. I'm always on the look out for new sources of data, especially manufacturers drawings and unusual photopraphs, and happy to share info. where I can.

Cheers

The third contest at Bournemouth was clouded in fog. 1919 There was no winner.

The fourth contest in 1920 was held at Venice but there was only one entrant, a Savoia S 10 which retired.

For drawings of some of the aircraft see <www.roytassell.com>

Hi Roy,

Yes, I bought a couple of your drawings a few years ago. I am currently working to produce 1:48 scale drawings of every Schneider entrant, potential entrant, projects and concepts. Over 50 done so far and perhaps another 30 to go. Locating original, and reliable, company blueprints and general arrangement drawings is a challenge, as you will know, but so far so good. Google, eBay and ever increasing access to archives is invaluable, at a cost in £ though.

Hi Roy,

Thanks for the list. I actually have an extensive library of both period and more recent books and magazines covering all aspects of the Schneider Trophy that I have built up over many years. At this stage in my research it is really more detailed original material that I require to fill the gaps. Its becoming increasingly difficult to track this down and the well is definitely running dry, but you never know what you may turn up if you dig deep enough.

Cheers

Thanks Schneiderman.

The winner of the 1922 event at Naples was the Supermarine Sea Lion II.

The 1923 contest was held at Cowes, Isle of Wight, and the Curtiss CR 3 won while a second CR 3 took second place.
