Does anyone know when Golden Hind was scrapped- which I believe followed irrevocable and final damage by a storm -the wall plaque/painting at the Harty Ferry Inn is dated May 1954 .

The Poole Flying Boat Celebration website lists the storm as being in March 1954. See: http://www.pooleflyingboats.com/archive ... 201953.pdf

The Profile Publication booklet on the Empire Flying Boats says that the Golden Hind was damaged in a storm in 1954 "and broken up soon after."

Hope that is of some assistance

Thanks Alex- three clicks on 1954 seems pretty conclusive.

Just to add a bit of confusion, A J Jackson in 'British Civil Aircraft since 1919' volume 3 says, in the article on the Short S.26, "The tow ended in the Swale at Harty Ferry, where 'Golden Hind', last of the pre-1940 flying boats, was sunk in a gale in May 1954".
However, in the appendix at the back of the same book, he writes "towed to Harty Ferry on the River Swale and damaged beyond repair, March 1954".

So even he, presumably around at the time, couldn't get the dates consistent within his own book.

Getty images have this shot of the Hind impaled on a concrete jetty dated 18Mar1954 location 'Faversham'

And an account in Flight published 12May1954 suggests the Hind's hull had been damaged prior to the collision with the jetty
