SHORT SANDRINGHAMS IN ARGENTINA

Would some kind soul agree with my (lengthy) research that the final (5) Short flying boats to operate in Argentina with the Cooperativa Argentina de Aeronavegantes were

LV-AAO Argentina
LV-AAQ Inglaterra (renamed Provincia de Formoza)
LV-ACT Paraguay
LV-AHM Almirante Zar and
LV-AHH Rio de la Plata .

While I am still trying to find out the LV- re-registrations for former CAUSA
CX-AKR Capitan Boiso Lanza and
CX-ANI Saint David when inherited by Aerolineas Argentinas
And what happened to them- they dont appear to have been bought by the Cooperativa Argentinas.

I have almost given up trying to source any real info about the 'COOPS' activities.

Hi, and welcome.

I haven't got much either on the fates of the South American Sandringham/Sunderlands so I can't add a lot as yet.

However, DP195 CX-AKR “Capitan Bosio Lanza” was originally part of CAUSA's fleet and I have a note that she was involved in a non-fatal accident at Montevideo 26-1-56 and scrapped afterwards.

My list of aircraft used in Argentina/Uruguay isn't complete. Do you know the original (or at least earlier) identities of LV-AHM and CX-ANI?

Have you seen the magazine Propliner 94 Spring 2003 article ‘Ladies of the River Plate’ by Michael Magnusson?

Interesting that the article only confirms four as operational with CAA - LV-AHH being laid up damaged?

On the broader list:
SH.58C was EJ172 G-AKCP " St David" CX-ANI
SH.59C was ML840 G-AKCR "St Andrew" CX-ANA
(edited to correct the finger trouble spotted by Richard - ta!)

Both were ex-BOAC Bermuda class. Still don't yet have the fate of CX-ANI or the LV registration. I'll keep digging

And I did have the link to the Norwegian Sandringham afterall: SH-71C JM714 LN-LMK LV-PAE LV-AHM.

I think SH.58C EJ172 G-AKCP “St David” was CX-ANI

and

SH.59C ML840 G-AKCR “St Andrew” was CX-ANA

I don’t know the fate of either of them.

The only photo I have of G-AKCP is this one, which is tiny and not very clear but think the name looks more like St David than St Andrew.

Just in case you haven't got this information:

I have a copy of John Hamlin's wonderful book "Ocean Sentinel"published in 2012 which shows the following:

G-AKCP which became CX-ANI. Stuck an object and damaged beyond repair on takeoff from Montevideo 25 Jan 1956. Beached and the wreck still extant in Montevideo Harbour early 1964 but later scrapped.

C-AKCR which became CX-ANA. Damaged beyond repair when it struck a dredge while taxying for takeoff on Montevideo Harbour 22 Oct 1955. Presumed scrapped

2 aircraft lost in a 3 month period!!
