Catalina crewmember 'overheard'

Postby antipodeanandy » Fri Apr 09, 2010 12:00 pm

A totally vague post but I was at Temora today watching the arrivals and practice for this weekend's flying display when I overheard a well-spoken chap talking to one of the pilots (who flies the HARS Catalina at times) about his time training on Catalinas. He said he trained on "the ones that could only land on the water." It's a long shot but I'm hoping to bump into him tomorrow.

He had a joke with the pilot about how long it took to fly the HARS Cat from Sydney. First time I've come across a former Cat chap.

As you might imagine in a crowd of several thousand people I didn't come across the Cat pilot. I did manage to bump into a pair of Australian Spitfire pilots, one of whom took Hurricanes to Russia, flew Spits over Europe and, after the war, transferred to the FAA and flew in Korea.

The Spits should have had floats for this forum.
