Rathmines Catalina Festival

Postby Pegasus » Wed Jun 10, 2009 11:51 pm

:P Just a quick word on this year's Catalina Festival to be held at the former RAAF flying boat base at Rathmines on Lake Macquarie. This year the Festival will be held on the 24th of October at Rathmines. The date has been changed so as not to clash with the NSW Labor Day long weekend and also to try and ensure better more stable weather conditions for the whole weekend. The aircraft attendance last year was particularly poor, one Searey and one Cessna 180 floatplane and a flyover by a RAAF Hawk from Williatown. Three or four more Seareys started out from Sydney but had to turn back due to bad weather.

Hopefully the date change will ensure larger crowds and better weather so that the weekend can be enjoyed by all. Any member (Australian or International) who feels they would like to attend is welcome to do so. As they say, the more the merrier. It is also hoped to have a flyover by the two airworthy Catalinas in Australia as well as some other goodies at the festival.

Cheers,
Ross.

Is that doctor with his Lake L-400 gonna be there too? See if you can persaude Phil to get the "other' Black Cat
along to the festival. Which Black Cat? This one:

She could park side by side with VH-CAT on the concrete pad. Seeing as there's time, if you guys *really* wanted to get *really serious*
about a *real* flying boat festival, then contact these people:

As I said, that would make a *true* flying boat festival!

:)g'day Stealer,
Apparently -PBZ has at some time in the past suffered a sinking and is now not licenced to do water landings so I can't see it attending the Catalina Festival. as a fly in aircraft. The organizers are trying to arrange a fly over of the two Cats but -PBZ will then have to continue on to Williamtown or return to Albion Park.

Cheers,
Ross.

If there's gonna be a fly-over, be sure that *both* cats pass directly over the memorial, and as they do, waggle their wings in a "salute" to all
the crew of those original cats, especially those that had fallen in the line of duty.
