Pan Am Pearl Harbor Base

Any photos, plans, drawings, directions, helpful hints on visting places where flying boats have been operated from historically, or are being operated from today. I am always interested in receiving 'Then & Now' type photographs to assist current day visitors to these place. I'm trying to record the best places to visit before they disappear for ever.

Pan Am Pearl Harbor Base

During a recent visit to Pearl Harbor, I tried to locate the old PAA Clipper base on the West Loch of Pearl Harbor. Does anyone have information and photos of the exact location?

There's an aerial picture of the location, but a bite before the base was opened, at

and this may help a bit

and a picture dated 1946 (when it closed)

nothing obvious but a street map should help now!

Fred! Outstanding. I found the reference on the MAP (See Below). I leave Sunday and I can not wait to visit the site. I will post pictures upon my return.

Well Good News and Bad News.

Good News:
I made it to Hawaii and had a nice tour of Pearl Harbor.

Bad News:

The Pan Am Clipper site noted above, is on an active military base. I was not allowed to pass thru the check point without a military ID.

I was hot! I just sat thru rush hour traffic and the day was setting up for a perfect evening photo shot.

I told the guard that I wanted to talk to his next of command. I even made up a story that I was a contributing editor to the http://www.seawings forum. No luck.

So next year when I go back. I am going to contact the base commander before I go. I am going to get that picture!

Aloha Mark,

I just discovered both your post and this wonderful web site. However I noticed your post on PanAm's Pearl City Hawaii base was in 2o11. However best I try anyway I feel.

Primarily, I hope this post finds you and yours Happy n Healthy.

Secondly, Hope you have gotten back to Hawaii by now and had a chance to find the info you were looking for.

I was a boy living in military housing in this same ares in the mid 1950s. Also just 3 weeks ago I was back in Hawaii and once again tried as you to visit my old stomping grounds and came across the same guard shack abad problem. It was there the lsat time I passed by on Dec 7, 2oo1 when I took my dad back for the 60th anniversary of the attack. However my dad is retired military and at the age of 83, he still had his military ID ion his wallet with him.

Take a look at http://www.3cats.com/Dec72001/index.htm if you like from that trek

I was also there in 1998 when there was no guard shack there n visited the same area the anphib haul out ramp was n cement dock the Clippers tied up to still is and can be seen on Google Earth.....

Feel free to contact me. However that was 60+ years ago I lived there but happy to tell you what I remember about the place. However, candidly, the hotel was long gone when I was there but there were remnants of WWII all over the place (I can remember us kids found a rusty old machine gun once)....

Glennnnnnn

Ps I want to attach an image to this post but hitting the "IMG" button does not do it. Asy suggestions on how to ad a photo with our spend an hour so reading the FAQs?
