I've found some errors too, but I don't think it affects the book that much overall, no book is perfect and I think he got a whole lot more right than he did wrong.
Considering how long it was in the works and how old some of that data is and the fact that Fred is from the UK and got his info long range will allow me to cut him some slack.

I've looked repeatedly for the McDermott STC for the engine conversion and haven't had any more luck than you have.

I may be incorrect, but I believe after the McDermott STC's were surrendered back to the FAA, they were destroyed in a fire...
