N16CA - the Dart-powered "Conroy Albatross"

Postby Rajay » Thu Sep 16, 2010 2:36 pm

Does anyone know what the deal is with N16CA, the so-called "Conroy Albatross" (the short-wing Albatross powered by a pair of Rolls-Royce Darts)? It seems to have been in "storage" in New Smyrna Beach, FL for a long time. Why isn't such a unique and capable aircraft kept in service and put to use? Does anyone know who the actual owner is? (To quote Mel Gibson from the movie "Payback" - "One man... you go high enough you always come to one man... who?")

I don't know who the current owner is, but for years it was owned by Conroy Albatross Inc. out of Maryland.
I just went and checked it out on airport-data.com and I wonder about it's future.

It looks like a clean job along the factory assembly joints, so maybe there's a chance it's being moved to a new location for further restoration or display.
