I finally captured the RESCUE lettering on "film".
These two images are the same photo -- the second one with my red crayon added.
(The U is there also, but this photo file may be a tad too large to fit.)
The theory here is that only the ten RCAF planes had this lettering.
Yesterday, I found a tiny bit more information on a web page I had not seen before. Nothing dramatic.
It still looks like I have G-455.
George Armstrong ruled out G-453, G-457, and G-458, but I do not yet know how. All I find on those is "Probably Destroyed".
G-449 is listed as Written Off in 1973. This was probably after it left the RCAF, since I have found that two others (G-451 and G-456) were returned to Grumman in 1971.
G-450 is listed as Written Off in 1966. This was probably during service with the RCAF -- pre-1971.
But I do not know the exact definition of "written off".
The remaining four of the ten are accounted for.
