Herewith a photo of the Supermarine Sealion.ImageImage
Both the Sealion II & Sealion III were the same aircraft. It has always been stated that the aircraft had a blue hull, but there is a strong belief that it was varnished mahogany. The wings and tail on the III were silver with the registration G-EBAH in a white panel on the port side of the hull only & in black on the top wing reading from the front.

First photo is of Sealion III (at repose). Second pic is of Sealion II which won the Schneider Trophy at Naples in 1922.

On Seawings photopage there is a photo of Sealion III in military clothing. This was taken at Felixstowe a few days before its fatal crash & write-off.

So what colour would you like to say it was ?

The Supermarine Sea King was extensively modified, including shorter wings & up-rated engine etc and became the Sealion II & III.Image

A sad end to a noble aircraft.

The Supermarine Sealion I was a totally different aircraft than the Sealion II & III.

Hi,

as this is a Schneider- rather than a Supermarine-Sea-Lion-thread:

does anyone have photos different to the 2 already known from the Savoia S.21 1921 Schneider trophy racing flying boat? All my literature gives little to nocoverage in this respect. If I ever want to enter a contest with my model (currently under build), I will need to show photos beside the 3-view.

Regards,
Rene

And I second Rene's request and extend it to cover any of the pre 1923 contest aircraft. There is a real shortage of photographs showing the many Macchi and Savoia flying boats in particular.

Cheers
