Help needed on the Walrus aboard HMS Glasgow circa: 1939/40

Postby seawings » Tue May 12, 2015 10:00 pm

Hi Everyone,

I have been contacted by a chap - Carl - seeking information and references - particularly plans, drawings and photographs of the Supermarine Walrus on it's launching platform aboard HMS Glasgow circa 1939-40. He needs the references in able to build it sitting on its catapult.

Carl say's: "In particularly the catapult system: The McTaggaert system appears to have many configurations and I wondered if anyone could be of assistance? My preference, if possible, would be to build the catapult that appears to be at deck level with solid sides.

Anyone got any references to assist Carl?
Best Regards,

Hi All,

Second question:

Does anyone know the hull coloured 'flash'/'stripe' - the Squadron colour - carried by the HMS Glasgow Walruses??

This source says: "Markings for HMS Albatros and HMS Glasgow":

Although I have no idea how trustworthy it is...

Hi Whyme,

Gosh, thanks for that.

I had a good crawl through Google and the like last night but found nothing helpful (kept getting distracted from what I did find, however!)

I need a copy of the late Ray Stutivant's tome - 'FAA Squadrons' I think......

But many thanks,
Best Regards,

....and L2217 is the HMS Glasgow 'boat.

Well done that man..! It shows the hull band as red which is what I'm trying to confirm, so I'm off now to research this 'boat.

Thanks again..! :D
