Loening OL-8 in Alaska

Postby MrWidgeon » Thu Jul 03, 2014 7:31 am

Another photo from the Gentleman that supplied the Levanevsky photo.

He writes ...
Seaplane tender USS Gannett during Alaska Aerial Survey Expedition, 1929, with Loening OL-8 amphibious seaplane (aka “The Flying Shoehorn”) on the stern.

At the time, my father Larry Burrow was a radio operator on the passenger ship SS Queen, which operated between Seattle and SE Alaska. He was given this photo by a radioman from the Gannett during an exchange of shipboard visits in Skagway.

Photo provided by Charlie Burrow and posted with his approval.
